One of my favorite things to see in the Spring are ladybugs. I just think they are beautiful. There is something so peaceful about them.

Check out these fun facts!

* A ladybug’s jaw chews from side to side instead of up and down like our jaws.
* When a ladybug flies, its wings beat 85 times every second.
* Female ladybugs are larger than male ladybugs.
* The color of the ladybug’s spots begin to fade as it gets older.

Did you learn anything new about ladybugs?

Recommended Reading: “The Grouchy Ladybug” by Eric Carle.

This is a classic story about a grouchy ladybug who doesn’t want to share breakfast with a kind ladybug. He sets out on a journey to prove he is tougher than every animal he meets. After feeling a bit defeated, he ends up with the kind ladybug sharing breakfast.

Did you know that reading to your kids can make the heart bigger? Preschoolers who hear more stories get a head start on developing empathy. Kid’s books provide opportunities to talk about the character’s emotions. Fingerplays provide multisensory learning.

Give this cute ladybug fingerplay a try.
