It is already that time of year again to start thinking about how everyone is going to get out the door on time for work and school. Even if your child is in a year-around childcare/preschool program, it is important to get them there in time to start the morning school routine.
Here are a few suggestions to help make the morning routine easier.
* About 3 weeks before school starts, have your child start going to bed a few minutes earlier each night and getting up a few minutes earlier. Start with 15 minutes and gradually increase it each week until school starts.
* Start a bedtime routine and stick with it. This is a good time to read a story and snuggle. Keep the routline calm.
* Teach your child to get prepared the night before. Even preschoolers can do this. It is a great time to instill some organizational skills. Have your child lay out their clothes the night before.
* Prepare lunches the night before. It saves a lot of time and frustration in the morning.
* Prepare backpacks the night before. Any school supplies needed? Any notes to be looked at or signed? Will there be a need for a jacket? Have a special school spot designated. All backpacks and anything else that needs to go to school always goes in that spot, so it is ready to grab in the mornings.
* Eliminate all electronics in the mornings to cut out distractions.
* Start the morning off in a positive tone. The day starts off so much better with a smile and a hug!
