Time is flying by! It is really starting to feel like summer when Memorial Day gets here. What do you usually do on Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a United States national holiday to honor those who have fought and died while serving their country. While many of us enjoy all the things that come with a 3 day weekend, it is a difficult holiday for some. The article below discusses how military deployment impacts preschoolers and their families.

How about trying out a new snack together in celebration of Memorial Day? I love this snack idea. Did you know cooking activities are good for kids because they help them with following directions?

Fruit Flag:
What you will need: strawberries, blueberries, graham crackers, vanilla yogurt, plastic knives, plastic spoons.

The children use their plastic knives to cut up the strawberries. They use the plastic spoon to put a spoonful of yogurt on their graham cracker and spread it. They then place their strawberries and blueberries on the graham cracker in stripe patterns.

This snack is colorful, healthy and even helps with fine motor and math skills! Enjoy!

In the mood for some patriotic music? Have a listen to a kid’s version of America the Beautiful by clicking the link below. I had not taken the time to listen to this song in a very long time. I had forgotten what a pretty song it is.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend, whatever you do!
